Las Ventas Bullring

Madrid’s bullring is called La Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas (Alcalá street, Metro: Las Ventas). This impressive building, designed by José Espeliu, was finished in 1929, although the ring was inaugurated in 1931. Today the ring is also used for rock concerts and some other cultural events.

Corrida de toros, corrida de novillos.

A novillada or corrida de novillos is a training fight, a bullfight between young bulls and matadors who have not yet become fully qualified. The prices are approximately half of those for the normal bullfights. In Madrid they still arouse a lot of excitement

San Isidro Festival

The best time to see bullfights in Madrid is during the months of May and June. The world famous San Isidro Festival takes place during these months and brings together the best fighters, bulls and aficionados. There are fights every day for 31 days, starting at 7 o’clock in the evening. The festival includes a variety of different fights, the regular Corrida de toros, some corrida with novillos (young bulls), rejones (bullfights on horseback) and Goyesca fights (in period costume).
